Taking place on the 5 and 6 June, Peterborough Spring Regatta saw a whole club turnout with crews entered across all squads.
The first day of racing had Newark entries from Masters to Junior 15 events. Notable results came from the Price brothers, racing as a Hollingworth Lake and Newark composite crew won the Master E/F 2- in addition to the Master F 2x. Saturday’s racing also saw success from our Women’s Masters, Dawn Zalas and Lou Elkington in the Masters D/E 2-. Dawn and Lou flew down the course, finishing an incredible 30 seconds ahead of Derwent.
Junior athlete, Georgian Joy, showed competitive racing as she comfortably won her WJ15 1x heat by over 10secs, allowing her to progress to the final. Georgian raced well to finish second, narrowly missing out on a winning spot. Georgian was put through her paces again in the WJ15 2x with Kate Revill, finishing a respectable second place in the final. Further success came from the J15 squad in the J15 2x, Charlie Russel and James Gleed, who won their heat, and went on to win their final by 5 seconds against Trentham BC, Peterborough City, and Kings Rochester.
Sunday’s racing saw another great turn out for Newark across all squads. J16 athletes, Lucas Bowes and Tom Cradduck raced Open 2x, securing an impressive win of over 10 seconds ahead of City of Cambridge. Senior Women’s 8+ raced well during their heat to qualify for the ‘A’ Final, however, faced competitive racing, and missed out on a win.
