Newark Rowing Club junior squads compete at Henley Women’s Regatta, Henley-on-Thames. The club qualified for Junior Doubles and Junior Singles, narrowly missing out on qualification for Junior 16 quads, and Junior quads.
Taking place on Friday 2 July, all crews must race for a qualifying spot with the opportunity to race side-by-side down the iconic Henley course. Henley Women’s Regatta saw success for the Junior Squad as 17 years old Connie Ferrer and Neve Woodman, qualified for the Raynor Cup, Junior Doubles, and 18 years old Maisie Archer-Dytch, secured a spot to race for the Di Ellis Cup, Junior Singles.
The Junior Double comfortably raced their first heat against Cheltenham College on Saturday 3 July, winning the first round by 2 ½ lengths, taking them to the quarter final against Trentham Boat Club. Despite giving the quarter final a good fight, Trentham passed Newark, winning the round by 1 ¾ lengths.
Maise’s heat for the Di Ellis Cup provided excellent racing against Wycliffe Juniors as the girls raced bow ball to bow ball for the first half of the 1500m course. The Wycliffe Junior athlete had a little more in the tank to go on and win the heat.
“We are incredibly proud of all the junior women who raced at Henley Women’s Regatta. To get results like this after a challenging 18 months is a real testament to the training the girls’ have put in,” comments Head Coach Ashley Cowley. “I hope by competing to this level can really help to put Newark Rowing Club on the map.”
The Club had further entries in the Bea Langridge Trophy, Junior Quads, and the Nina Padwick Trophy, Junior 16 Quads, however narrowly missed out on qualification. Catch up with the weekend’s racing on YouTube.
