Wingfield Sculls

The Wingfield Sculls, first raced in 1830, is a side by side single sculling race over the championship course on the Tideway. The winner each year is presented with a pair of silver sculls and is crowed the British Amateur Sculling Champion and Champion of the Thames.

Each sculler has their own launch with a steerer in, to guide them through the perils of the Thames.

Jen Titterington became our first member to race this historic event for the club.

Attacking out the blocks, she lead the field along the line of boats before hitting her race rhythm. Battling through the rough Tideway conditions, the race for first and second had snuck away and Jen was in a tussle for the podium against the Molesey Boat Club sculler.

With endless attacks, the river sadly ran out and Jen came across the line in 4th, 1Length down on 3rd and within a minute of overall winner (and Olympic Champion) Imogen Grant.

Well done Jen, a fantastic performance and great to see the Newark stripes represented at one of the most prestigious events in the sport.

A massive thank you to Sean Blake and London Rowing Club for the use of a launch and supporting us in our campaign.
